Literacy Volunteers of Westchester County, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing student-centered English literacy services to adults in Westchester County and acting as a community resource for the advancement of literacy countywide.
Our Mission is:
· To strengthen the English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of adults in Westchester County who function at Levels 1 and 2 as defined by the National Institute for Literacy Survey (NALS)
· To recruit, train, certify and support volunteers in the delivery of individual and group instruction at no cost to the students
· To help adults identify and achieve personal, job-related, family and community goals
Formed in 1983 from a number of local affiliates, Literacy Volunteers of America - Westchester County Affiliate, Inc. (LVWC) is one of the largest affiliates of ProLiteracy America, Inc. which has 1,200 affiliates across the United States.
